Description

This is an 18th-century building, likely a market, with later alterations. It is a two-story structure built over brick and finished with roughcast rendering. It has a steep, pantiled roof. The upper floor has two casement windows set in flush frames. The ground floor has two sash windows with glazing bars and cambered heads, also in flush frames. A six-panel door is set within a wooden casing featuring pilasters and a cornice. A large chimney is located on the north side of the building. The Old Market occupies a prominent location near the center of town and is part of a group of four similar buildings. Numbers 1 to 7 (odd) contribute to the character of the group, and specifically No 5 has group value with Nos 5 and 7.
