Description
The Bear and Bells Inn is a 17th-century building that has undergone some alterations. It features a brick front with pilasters and is painted with distemper. The steep roof is covered with machine tiles. There are two windows on each floor, which have cambered heads and are sash windows with glazing bars and flush frames. A brown brick chimney is located at the center, and the entrance also has a cambered head. A hanging sign is present as well.
The Old Market, where the inn is located, is an important area near the center of the town. The buildings numbered 9 to 17 (odd) form a group with No 2 Northgate, contributing to the overall character of the market.
