Description
Hill House is a farmhouse that dates mainly from the 16th and 17th centuries, built in two or three phases. It features a timber frame with plastering and a pantiled roof, standing two storeys high with attics. The main range is flanked by cross wings. The house has various casement windows from the late 17th to 19th centuries, including some earlier examples with square leaded panes. The south wing includes a lobby entrance with a six-panel raised and fielded door that has two hinged halves, along with a heavy stack featuring moulded brickwork at the base. At the rear of the south wing, there is a one-bay addition made of colourwashed brick. The rear of the main range has a small timber-framed gabled addition with an early plank door and a first-floor pointed-arch window with Y tracery. The north service wing contains a notable 17th-century newel staircase, which appears to be a later addition at the gable end. The property is situated on a moated site.
