Description
West Cottages is a former farmhouse that has been converted into two cottages, originally built in the early 17th century. In the early 19th century, when it was divided into cottages, the main range was extended at the left end and a red brick wing was added centrally and set forward. The building features a timber frame with plaster, red brick on the left gable end, and some mid-20th century brick casing, all topped with a thatched roof. It is a single storey with an attic and has various 18th and 19th century casement windows with square leaded panes, along with three boarded doors. There are two dormers with scalloped bargeboards, and the right gable end includes a window with early diamond leaded glass. The gable end that is set forward also has scalloped bargeboards. Inside, there are two internal stacks and one at the left gable end. The right end of the building is the least altered and showcases some good exposed timbering.
