Description
Sibton Park is a large country house dating from 1827. It is constructed of stucco over brick, designed to resemble ashlar, with a slated roof. The house is symmetrical in design, with a three-bay entrance facade. This central bay is flanked by pairs of giant pilasters, with further pilasters on either side of the entrance itself. The windows are sash windows with slender glazing bars; those on the ground floor have moulded architraves and cornices. The central window is a casement. A massive two-storey, semi-circular portico is supported by four unfluted giant Ionic columns, and the entablature extends along the main facade. The entrance has mid-20th century double panel doors, a plain rectangular fanlight, and narrow side lights. A flat parapet is topped with stone balustrading. To the right of the main facade is a three-bay service wing with segmental-headed sash windows. The garden front features a five-bay design with windows similar to the main facade, and the two outer bays are flanked by giant pilasters, with the three centre bays slightly set back. The oriental room and dining room are notable for their ornamental plaster friezes and cornices, each culminating in a central rosette. The oriental room retains Chinese wallpaper from around 1860, depicting blossoming trees and birds, alongside a fine marble fireplace with flanking detached columns. Another ground floor room contains a carved marble fireplace. A well-staircase is constructed of stone, featuring a wooden balustrade and handrail.
