Description
Abbot's Lodge is a house that was originally built as a dower house for Sibton Abbey, which used to be located nearby but has since been demolished. The building dates from the mid-18th century and has seen significant additions in the 19th and 20th centuries. It is constructed of red brick and features a plain tiled roof. The house has two storeys and an attic, with a symmetrical facade that includes three sash windows with glazing bars set in flush frames, and flat brick arches. The ground floor windows extend down to ground level. The entrance has twin half-glazed doors framed by a moulded architrave with corner roundels, and is topped by a Greek Doric portico supported by fluted columns and pilasters. There is a brick band at the first floor level and a moulded brick eaves dentil cornice. The building also has two small dormers, and later additions have been made to both sides.
