Description
Abbey Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the early 17th century, with an east wing that features bricks marked "CW 1842" and "C. White 1842", likely indicating the date of its construction. The building has an L-shaped plan and is timber framed with plaster, with a small section that is roughcast rendered. It has a plaintiled roof and stands two storeys high with an attic. The facade includes five 19th-century casement windows and a four-panel door on the left side. There is an internal stack, and at the rear, a Dutch gable made of red brick features some stone and flint decoration, with pairs of oval windows at the first floor and attic levels. The gable also has a lozenge panel within the pediment and an integral stack, while additional oval windows at ground floor level are obscured by two 19th-century lean-to additions. A 19th-century wing made of red brick has a slated roof and three windows facing east, with all first floor windows and one ground floor window being dummies. Some internal joinery, including the staircase and doors, retains 19th-century woodgrain effect paintwork.
