Description
The Almshouses, originally one house, were built in the 16th century and converted into almshouses in 1891. At the rear, there is a small outbuilding, likely from the 17th century, which is now disused. The main structure has a timber-framed core that is mostly covered in red brick, featuring panels of herringbone brickwork on the upper part of the facade, and has a pantiled roof. It is a single storey with an attic and has three windows with two-light casements. Number 1 has a partly glazed boarded and battened door, while Number 2 has a two-panel door. There are two gabled dormers and an internal stack. Number 1 retains some exposed 16th-century joists. A stone shield on the facade is inscribed "Home for the Aged. In memory of Dorothea Pike Scrivener and Mabel Levett Scrivener E.M.L 1891 E.L.S."
