Description

The Old Post Office is an early to mid-19th century dwelling and shop. It is constructed of red brick with a brick band at first-floor level and a brick eaves dentil cornice. The roof is covered in asbestos slates. The building is three storeys tall and has a four-bay facade arranged 3:1. The three left-hand bays form the symmetrical part of the house, while the right-hand bay is a slightly wider shop set back at an angle. The bays are divided by brick pilasters. The windows are sash windows with glazing bars in flush frames, each with a slightly cambered brick arch. There is one blank panel on the second floor. The house section has paired panelled shutters to the ground floor windows and a central doorway with twin inset three-panel doors, the upper panels glazed, and a blind semi-circular fanlight with glazing bars. The original shop front features a slightly bowed four-light window, double half-glazed doors, and a wrought iron balcony supported by shaped brackets.
