Description

Walpole Old Hall is a late 16th and early 17th century farmhouse, originally divided into cottages, with 20th century additions. The building has an L-shaped plan, with a later wing at the rear. It is timber-framed and has roughcast rendering and a plaintiled roof. The house is two storeys high, with attic space, although the original attic windows are now blocked. Windows are mostly 19th and 20th century casements. The front of the house has two 20th-century doors, each with a rectangular fanlight above. The most notable feature is the three fine external red brick stacks; two are located against the main range and one against the rear wing. Each stack features two detached octagonal flues with moulded brick bases, although the caps are now missing.
