Description

Benhall Cottage is a house dating to the late 16th century. It originally comprised a single main range with a cross-wing at its south-east end. The construction is timber-framed and plastered, with the cross-wing having a brick face to the south-east and weatherboarded north-east gable. The roof is covered with plain tiles. The house stands two storeys high with an attic. Most windows are 3-light casements with square leaded panes; one window on the cross-wing is a 5-light ovolo-moulded mullion window also with leaded panes. A modern half-glazed door has been added. There are two internal chimney stacks, the one to the west of the main range featuring a moulded base. Later 19th and early 20th century brick extensions extend to the west and north of the original building, the northern extension featuring an elliptical-headed gable in a Dutch style.
