Description
The Old Vicarage dates to around 1810, with later additions. It is a brick building, featuring a white brick facade and a slated roof. The east wing is likely the original part, with a two-window front. It has sash windows with glazing bars set in cased frames, flat brick arches above the windows, and wide, bracketed eaves. A three-light bow window is present on the east facade. To the west is a lower two-storey section with a two-window front, also featuring sash windows with glazing bars – with three-light sashes on the left-hand side. An asymmetrical doorway, now set within a modern brick porch, leads to a mid-20th century half-glazed door. The Reverend John Mitford (1781-1859), a writer and editor of the Gentleman's Magazine, served as vicar here from 1810 until his death.
