Description
Broad Oak Farmhouse is a farmhouse with a core dating back to the 16th century, featuring later additions and an 18th-century facade. The original roof was destroyed by fire in 1980. The building has a timber-framed core, mostly covered in red brick that was previously colourwashed, with some modern render at the rear, and a plaintiled roof. It is two storeys high with an attic and has a three-bay facade, where the centre bay is set forward. The windows include two-light and three-light casements with segmental arches. The central doorway features a six-panel door, with the upper two panels glazed, accompanied by 20th-century side lights and a broad open porch supported by square timber columns. There is a brick dentil eaves cornice with saw-tooth brickwork above, and the roof is hipped. The interior has been largely modernised, showcasing roll-moulded beams in the kitchen ceiling, a 17th-century turned balustrade on the staircase, and one fully panelled bolection moulded bedroom on the first floor.
