Description
The Haywards is a house that likely dates from the late 17th century, with an early 18th-century wing at the rear. It has an L-shaped plan and is constructed of red brick, featuring rusticated brick quoins, a moulded brick band at the first floor level, and a moulded brick eaves cornice. The roof is pantiled, and the building has two storeys and an attic.
The front has a five-window range with various casements and segmental arches. The ground floor includes some original windows with square leaded panes, and the two windows on the right side have been coupled together. There is a central doorway that has a moulded brick architrave, frieze, and cornice, along with an original two-panel door and a moulded doorframe that incorporates a rectangular fanlight. An internal stack features a vertical band of moulded bricks on the front.
The right gable has a moulded brick band above the attic window, while the left gable is not visible. There is a 19th-century lean-to on the right side that includes one re-used 17th-century leaded window. The rear wing is a single storey with an attic, but part of its roof is missing.
