Description
Bramfield Hall is a house that dates back to the 16th century, with significant alterations made in the 18th century and extensions added from the 18th to late 19th centuries. The building has an H-shaped plan and is constructed of red brick with a plain tiled roof. It stands three storeys tall and features a fine symmetrical facade from the late 18th century, which includes projecting wings and a nine-window range arranged in a 2:5:2 pattern. The windows are inset sashes with glazing bars and flat brick arches.
The entrance boasts an early 18th-century doorway with panelled reveals and a broken pediment adorned with dentils, supported by engaged Tuscan columns. The door itself is a six-panel design with raised and fielded panels, topped by a semi-circular fanlight with glazing bars. The eaves cornice is made of wooden modillions, and the wings have hipped roofs.
Inside, the north wing contains a 16th-century fireplace and roll-moulded beams. There is a late 18th-century mahogany staircase featuring marquetry inlay on the stair end brackets and a renewed balustrade. The ground floor rooms have a plaster frieze, and one room in the south wing showcases a fine late 18th-century marble mantelpiece.
