Description

This is a house, originally one building but later divided into two separate dwellings at 28 and 30 Double Street. The core of the structure dates back to the 16th century. The building is two storeys high and has a timber-frame construction, now mostly plastered, with No. 28 featuring an external lining of ashlar stone. The roof is covered in plain tiles, with a hipped section on the right side and a gabled section on the left, and has four courses of slates along the eaves. A large chimney stack rises from within the building, constructed of plain red brick. The windows vary. No. 28 has one mullion and transome casement window with pintle hinges. No. 30 has smaller sash windows set within decorative, cased frames. There are two 6-panelled doors: the door to No. 28 has raised and fielded panels, while the door to No. 30 has sunk panels.
