Description
Screen wall in the garden of Orwell Park School, around 1859. The wall is approximately 75 meters long, running eastwards from the clock tower and returning about 30 meters southwards. It stands about 3 meters high, with an additional 1 meter of open balustrading on top. The ground is significantly lower on the north and east sides. The wall is constructed of red brick, which is weathered at the top, featuring closely spaced flat balusters made of unmoulded brick and solid piers at 4-meter intervals. It has moulded limestone copings. Alternate piers are topped with limestone ball-on-plinth finials, and there is an obelisk finial at the corner. The balustrading is in poor condition and partly collapsed. This structure is included for its group value.
