Description
Gates, piers, and flank walling located 80 metres north of Orwell Park School date from the mid-19th century and were constructed for Colonel George Tomline, MP. The entrance features wrought iron carriage and pedestrian gates, limestone piers, and red brick walls with terminal piers of limestone. The wrought iron screen consists of three sections, richly decorated with scroll-work. The central section includes a pair of carriage gates, each displaying a coat of arms, flanked by pedestrian gates set within large fixed panels. Square wrought iron piers, filled with scroll-work, frame the three sections. The gates are supported by a pair of limestone piers designed in the Renaissance style, featuring sunk panels and a bold cornice. These piers are connected to curved flank walls made of red brick, which have simple limestone terminal piers at the roadside.
