Description

The gate piers, gates, flanking wall, and bollards at number 89 were built in 1902 for Joseph Pickering. The structure features wrought-iron gates with two leaves, bars and dog bars, and elaborate scrolled panels at the center of each gate, along with scrolled frames and crests that display the date. The gate piers are made of rusticated ashlar, with a plinth, squat bulbous corner shafts, an entablature, and a deep moulded cornice that resembles that of the adjacent lodge at number 89. The piers have flat capstones with remnants of wrought-iron lamp supports.

To the north, there is a low ashlar wall approximately 10 meters long with moulded coping, which curves to meet the rusticated pier. To the south, the wall is about 2.5 meters high and 10 meters long, constructed of coursed gritstone and likely represents the remains of an earlier estate boundary, featuring roll-moulded coping that ramps down at the left end. This section also includes a gateway with a plain ashlar surround and a board door topped with a decorative cast-iron panel.

The bollards, which are approximately 0.7 meters high, consist of six to the left and four to the right of the gates, featuring a conical shape with flattened ball finials. This entrance was originally built for Brandon Hill, which is now St Urban's School. The structure is included for its group value.
