Description
Chimneys is a 16th to 17th century timber-framed house located on Hall Street in Long Melford. The building features exposed timber framing with plaster infill and stands two storeys high. The upper storey juts out over the front on exposed joists. The ground storey has two bays, originally from the 18th century, which have been converted into entrances. The windows include old latticed casements, with some small high-level windows on the first storey and outer oriel bay windows. The roof is tiled and has an original chimney stack with four grouped octagonal shafts. At the north end, there is a later wing that extends to the west, which is also timber-framed and plastered, standing one storey with attics and featuring casement windows and three gabled dormers. The interior retains exposed timber-framing.
