Description
This barn, located approximately 20 meters southeast of the Red House, dates from the 17th and early 18th centuries. It is constructed mainly of red brick in Flemish bond, featuring some burnt headers, and has a plaintile roof with crested ridge tiles. The gables are shaped, with the south gable, which faces the road, built below eaves height in English bond and tumbling into the gable, along with an eaves band.
The south gable includes three ground floor vertical vents with cut brick reveals, a rectangular gable opening, and an owl hole beneath the apex. There is a semicircular-headed shaped gable with a sunk panel and five shaped ties. The west elevation consists of a stable and tack room on the left and the barn on the right. The stable features a boarded door and a sash window with glazing bars. There are two cart entrances with arched heads, one of which is blocked, along with three vertical vents similar to those on the south gable. Additionally, there is one mid-storey vent on the left and eight upper floor vents.
Inside, the stable has three stalls with timber partitions, hay racks, and troughs, with brick floors. Although the roof has largely been rebuilt, it retains one visible original tie beam. There is also a later midstrey added to the rear (east).
