Description
Colks Farm Barn is a 17th-century barn, built of red brick and glazed brick, topped with a thatched roof. Originally a three-bay barn from the 17th century, it was refaced in the late 17th century and extended to the east with an additional three bays in the early 18th century. The barn features outshuts to the south and has two 20th-century barn doors on the north side. The west end includes honeycomb brick vents, while the east end has vent slots. The west gable wall has a stable door with a segmental brick arch, a platband at eaves level, and a blocked hayloft door that now has a vent slot. There is an owl hole in the gable peak. The barn also has brick kneelers, tie irons, and parapet gables, with the eastern gable displaying brick tumbling. Inside, the brickwork is in English bond and features 17th-century brickwork. The structure includes tie beams with arch braces to the wall posts and a staggered butt purlin roof with straight wind braces.
