Description
The Coltishall and Hautbois War Memorial is made of Hopton Wood stone and is situated on a grassed bank by the roadside, opposite Willow Cottages on High Street (B1150) in Coltishall. It stands prominently at the top of the bank, facing the street and is accessible by steps. The memorial features a Celtic cross that is approximately 4.8 meters high, mounted on a tapering octagonal shaft that has four sides at the bottom. This shaft is connected to a square plinth that displays inscriptions, and beneath it is a three-stepped octagonal base. Names of those who served in the Second World War were added around the middle step of the base.
The incised inscription reads: "TO THE GLORY OF GOD/ AND/ IN EVER LOVING MEMORY OF/ THE MEN OF/ COLTISHALL & HAUTBOIS/ WHO GAVE THEIR LIVES/ FOR THEIR KING & COUNTRY/ IN THE GREAT WAR/ 1914 – 1918// (NAMES)// 1939 – 1945// (NAMES)."
