Description
Blacksmith's Yard is a house dating from the late 17th century, with an extension added in the 18th century. The building features a mix of rendered end colorwashed brick and flint, topped with pantiled roofs. It stands two storeys high with end attics and includes a 1½ storey extension to the west, as well as a continuous outshut to the north. There is also a lean-to extension to the south that was added around 1983.
The main section of the house is 2½ storeys tall, consisting of three structural bays and a lobby entrance plan. It has 18th-century windows with wrought iron casements and segmental arches, along with some inserted 20th-century windows. The east side has a parapet gable, and the south features two gabled dormers with casement windows. The building has an off-centre axial stack and an eastern end stack. The 1½ storey section has three casement windows with segmental arches and a 20th-century wedge dormer to the south. Inside, there are open brick fireplaces with timber bressumers, and the roofs are constructed with staggered butt purlins and wind braces.
