Description

Grove House is a house primarily from the 19th century, though it has an earlier core. It is constructed of red brick and features slate and pantiled roofs. The building stands three storeys tall and has a two-storey wing to the right, along with a continuous two-storey outshut at the rear. The western section has three windows and a central two-storey porch. The porch includes a double revealed four-centred arched doorway and a first-floor niche with a four-centred arch, both made of gauged brick. There are brick pilasters, parapet eaves with brick kneelers, and a modillion cornice. The house has three-light transomed casement windows with brick hood moulds. The moulded brick kneelers and parapet gables feature end stacks with triple polygonal stacks, the western ones having moulded brick caps. The two-storey wing to the east has two bays and English bond brickwork up to the first-floor level platband. It also has three-light transomed windows with hood moulds, recessed brick panels above, and a central coat of arms in stone with a brick hood mould. The building is finished with a moulded brick cornice and parapet eaves. Inside, there is a good 19th-century straight flight stair and ceiling mouldings.
