Description

Ruses Cottages, Nos 1 and 2, are a pair of mid-19th century brick-fronted houses in Long Melford, originally part of a larger property owned by Mr H Ruse and adjoining premises occupied by Ruses and Son, butchers. The houses are two storeys high and have a four-window front, featuring double-hung sash windows without glazing bars, arranged in a pattern of two windows per side, set within moulded stucco architraves. The front doors have vertical fillets and are topped with semi-circular fanlights, also framed by moulded stucco architraves. The roofs are slate-covered, with a substantial square chimney stack centrally positioned. The walls are colourwashed.
