Description

The Gables is a timber-framed house dating from the 16th to 17th centuries. The rear of the house was originally timber-framed and plastered, but the front was rebuilt in the 19th century using red brick. The house has projecting cross wings at the north and south ends, which are visible from the east front. It is two storeys high with a three-window front, featuring double-hung sash windows with glazing bars set in shallow reveals. These windows are topped with square label moulds, and parallel string courses run across the front, with the lower one positioned at the level of the first-floor window sills. A central entrance features an eight-panel door sheltered by a simple columned portico with a cornice hood. The roofs are tiled, and there's an original chimney stack at the rear, incorporating two octagonal shafts.
