MARKET HILL (North Side) Nos 1, 2 and 2A
GV II House at corner Burkitts Lane. Original house C16 but now very much altered, two storeys, and attics and cellars, timber framed and plastered, roofs tiled. The upper storey formerly projected on south and west sides, but south side (front) underbuilt and completely altered, C19 and later. Part first floor is tile hung and part ground floor modern brick and sheet glass, but at corner by Burkitt's Lane a heavy shaped corner post is visible with billet moulding and the upper storey projects on west side. Three windows at first floor, sash with glazing bars, two of which are altered. Included for group value.
No 1 form a group with No 3 and 40 Burkitts Lane. Nos 1 to 6 (consec) and 8 to 22 (consec), Black Boy Hotel, and the Town Hall form a group.
