Description
Nos 1, 2, and 2A on Market Hill is a house located at the corner of Burkitts Lane. Originally built in the 16th century, it has undergone significant alterations. The building is two storeys high with attics and cellars, constructed from timber framing and plaster, and has tiled roofs. The upper storey used to project on the south and west sides, but the south side (front) has been underbuilt and completely changed in the 19th century and later. Part of the first floor is tile hung, while the ground floor features modern brick and sheet glass. However, at the corner by Burkitts Lane, a heavy shaped corner post with billet moulding is still visible, and the upper storey projects on the west side. There are three sash windows with glazing bars on the first floor, two of which have been altered. This building is included for its group value with No 3 and 40 Burkitts Lane, as well as Nos 1 to 6 and 8 to 22, the Black Boy Hotel, and the Town Hall.
