Description
No. 53 Gainsborough Street is a building dating from 1692, likely originating in the 17th century but significantly altered in the 18th century and later. It has two storeys and attics, with a timber-framed and plastered structure, and tiled roofs. The front features a parapet above a cornice, and the upper storey projects over an early 19th-century double shop front that has been altered. The building has a three-window range with sash windows that now only have centre glazing bars on the upper storey. There is a separate entrance with a six-panel door. The interior once had remnants of painting on the wall from around 1610, which have now been removed, revealing an arched doorhead.
