Description
No. 47 Gainsborough Street is a corner building that dates back to 1692 and is located on the north side of the street. This 18th-century structure has undergone some alterations and is built from red brick. It stands three stories tall and features two sash windows with glazing bars. The first and second floors have four large three-light weavers' windows with small panes, while the ground floor has a modern shop that extends fully along the return facing Weaver's Lane. The building was constructed by the Gainsborough family to serve as a warehouse with weaving rooms. Similar weavers' windows can be found at the back, overlooking the garden of Gainsborough House. Nos. 41 to 47 (consecutive) and 1 and 2 Weaver's Lane are part of a group.
