Description
The Old Court House is a mid-19th century red brick building located on Hall Street in Long Melford. It features yellow brick rusticated quoins and window dressings. The structure consists of a central two-storey block with a stopped gable at the front, flanked by single-storey side wings that have parapets. The central block slightly projects forward. The building has a window arrangement of 1:2:1, with three-light mullioned and transomed casements that include glazing bars. Both the windows and the doorway are topped with square hood moulds. The roof is slate-covered. At the rear, tall brick walls were constructed for protection following the Melford Riots of 1885. The Old Court House has been converted into flats.
