Description
This is a timber-framed house dating from the 16th century, with cross wings at the north and south ends, the south wing likely added in the 17th century. The entire building was almost completely refronted in red brick during the 19th century; a panel on the south gable bears the date 1881. The house has two storeys and a four-window front, featuring double-hung sash windows with glazing bars in moulded brick reveals with serrated ornamental segmental heads. The outer windows are three-light. A six-panel door with a shallow fanlight, pilasters, and a cornice is located in the south wing. Modern shop windows are on the ground storey, and a 19th-century shop front has been incorporated into the north cross wing, which is now office premises. The roofs are tiled, and the gables have 19th-century ornamental bargeboards. Inside, the ground storey of the north wing features moulded ceiling beams and joists.
