Description
Brook House is a 16th and 17th century timber-framed and plastered house with later alterations, located on Hall Street in Long Melford. The building features cross wings on both the north and south ends, with jettied upper storeys supported by exposed joists and shaped brackets. The front displays exposed timber-framing with modern brick nogging. It is two storeys high and has a three-window range, featuring three-light double-hung sashes with glazing bars, fluted mullions, and cornices. A prominent gabled porch projects from the front, which is said to have been brought from the West Midlands and added later. This porch has carved bargeboards and corner posts adorned with carved figures of a man and a woman. On the north and south sides of the porch, there are five Tudor arched side lights. The porch is dated 1610, while the rear of the house has undergone significant alterations.
