Description
A 17th-century timber-framed house significantly altered and extended in the 19th century, now comprising Sloane Cottage and Nos. 1 to 3 Lower Falkland Cottages. Sloane Cottage, forming the south cross wing, incorporates a 19th-century addition extending south. Nos. 1 to 3 comprise the original house’s main block and north cross wing, which have been refaced in 19th-century brick and heightened or rebuilt.
The building is two storeys high with an attic to the north cross wing. Sloane Cottage displays early to mid-19th century exterior detailing, including a three-window front with double-hung sash windows. The upper-storey windows have glazing bars, while the ground-floor windows are three-light with single vertical glazing bars. A central doorway features a semi-circular fanlight, plain columns, and a cornice. Nos. 1 to 3 retain later 19th-century features, with a three-window front featuring double-hung sash windows with single vertical glazing bars. The roofs are tiled, with a large square chimney stack centrally located on the main block and ornamental cut and shaped bargeboards to the south cross wing.
