Description

Crope Hall is a house from the mid-16th century, constructed with a timber frame and rendered exterior, topped with a hipped plain tile roof. It features a two-cell end chimney plan and stands two storeys high. On the right-hand return, there is a large external offset stack made of 16th-century English bond brickwork. The building has a 20th-century porch and door, with two 20th-century timber casements to the right. Above these, there are three first-floor casements aligned with the ground floor openings. A lean-to is present on the left and rear, where part of the original wall has been removed.

Inside, the exposed frame shows arched braces from post to stud, along with evidence of wattle slots. Some of the frame in the left-hand cell has been removed, and the main beam has been reset. There is a large open brick fireplace with a chamfered bressumer, and an axial beam featuring an almost lambs tongue stop. The stairs are located in the original space at the rear but have been turned around. On the first floor, there are blocked mortices for a three-light diamond mullion window, along with shutter grooves in the front wall and in one reused internal partition.
