Description
Shuart Farmhouse is a house that dates back to the 16th century, with alterations made in the mid-19th century and 20th century. It features a timber frame that is clad with red and yellow stock brick, partly rendered and partly covered in tiles. The roof is plain tiled and has an irregular and much-altered plan. The building stands two storeys high, with a rebuilt shaped gable on the right side from the late 20th century, and projecting two-storey canted bays on the left. There is a recessed wing to the left, and the roof steps down to the right. The house has stacks at the rear and an irregular arrangement of metal and wooden casements and sashes, with three window bays on the left and three on the main range. A boarded door is located at the centre, set within a 20th-century porch. Behind this porch is an attractive ribbed and studded six-panel door, which has a moulded surround and a flat hood supported by brackets, featuring cock's-head latch plates. Inside, the frame is visible but has been altered; one upstairs room retains some remains of strapwork painted decoration on the timbers and painted panels with strapwork motifs on a portion of the wall.
