Description
Nos. 31 and 32 on Chapel Lane is a house that has been divided into two separate residences. It likely dates from the late 16th century or early 17th century and was partly refurbished in the 1980s. The building is timber framed, rendered, and has a brick casing on the left-hand return. It features a plaintile roof and consists of three cells across two storeys, with a cellar on the left side. There is a 20th-century extension at the rear that forms an L shape.
The middle cell has a timber porch with a boarded door, and to the right, there is a 19th-century timber three-light cross casement window. Above this, there is a two-light casement dormer. The right side has been modernized in the 1980s, featuring a three-light casement window and a two-light dormer above. The entrance is located in the right-hand return. An axial brick stack is positioned between the second and third cells.
Inside, the stack has been partly rebuilt and encased on the right. The interior features square joists with stop chamfers. The stairs in the right-hand cell have been replaced; they were originally at the front but now remain at the rear of the middle cell. Despite the modernization, the original frame and roof are said to still be intact.
