Description
29 and 30 Chapel Lane is a building from the late 16th century that was refurbished in the 20th century. It is timber framed and rendered, with the left-hand return wall rebuilt in brick during the 20th century. The building has a plaintile roof and a three-cell plan, standing at one and a half storeys tall. There is an axial brick stack located between the first and second cells. The doors on the left and right are 20th-century boarded doors, with the right door being inserted in the 1980s. The windows are also from the 20th century, featuring three-light timber casements, with the right window having previously been a doorway. There is a single light window below the stack and three rebuilt casement dormers. The right-hand two cells display an exposed braced frame, with a middle rail in the right-hand return. A roll-moulded bressumer is located over the fireplace, and the stack is made of good 16th and 17th-century bricks. Inside, there are exposed beams and joists, with the joists being very thin but stop-chamfered. There is a blocked rear mullion window that originally had three or four lights, and the roof features clasped purlins.
