Royal Hospital School And Attached Walls To Right And Left

The Royal Hospital School, built between 1925 and 1933 by Buckland and Heywood, is a house made of red brick with hanging red tiles on the first floor and a central band. It features a hipped dark red plain tiled roof and external chimney stacks on the returns, which have stone offset brackets above the eaves. The building has two storeys and a three-window range of small paned vertically sliding sashes with horns and moulded surrounds, along with angled bays on the ground floor. The central entrance consists of a six recessed panelled door with a moulded surround and a flat canopy supported by brackets. Attached to the front angles are red brick walls with a moulded brick plinth and stone coping, which extend through the staff accommodation house of the School. To the east, the wall curves towards the road and is supported by rectangular and square panelled brick columns that lead to the entrance of the School grounds. The wall includes round-headed gateways with full-height panelled gates.
