Royal Hospital School And Attached Walls To Right

The Royal Hospital School consists of a block of four houses built around 1925 to 1933 by Buckland and Heywood. The structure is made of red brick with hanging tiles on the first floor and features a central band. It has a dark red plain tiled roof with forward hipped gables on both the right and left sides, and three chimneystacks along the central ridge. The building is two storeys high and has a window arrangement of 1:6:1, featuring small paned vertically sliding sashes with moulded surrounds and gauged brick arches on the ground floor. There are two-storey angled bays at the right and left gables. Each house has four 6-panel doors with moulded surrounds and flat canopies supported by brackets, positioned to the right and left of the angled bays and centrally located between each pair of windows in the central range. The central pedestrian entrance has a square head. The red brick walls attached to the front corners extend through the staff accommodation houses of the School, featuring panelled gates in round-headed arches that lead into the rear gardens.
