Royal Hospital School and Attached Walls to Right and Left

The Royal Hospital School consists of a block of six houses built around 1925 to 1933 by architects Buckland and Heywood. The structure is made of red brick and features hanging red tiles on the first floor, with a central band. The roof is dark red with plain tiles and has hipped forward gables on both sides. The two central bays project forward and include a Dutch gable, which has stone coping and an elaborate sundial.

The building is two storeys high and has a window arrangement of 1:5:2:5:1, featuring small paned vertically sliding sash windows with moulded surrounds and gauged brick arches on the ground floor. The right and left gables each have two-storey angled bays. The doors are six-panel designs with moulded surrounds and flat canopies supported by brackets, arranged in a 1:2:0:2:1 pattern.

There are pedestrian archways with square heads located centrally in the right and left bays of the main range. The sundial, designed in an elaborate Jacobean style, has a vertical rectangular dial and a metal gnomon inscribed with 'Horas Non Numero Nisi Serenas'. The walls attached to the right and left forward angles extend through the staff accommodation houses of the school and feature panelled gates and round-headed archways.
