Royal Hospital School And Attached Walls To Right And Left

The Royal Hospital School consists of a block of four houses built around 1925 to 1933 by architects Buckland and Heywood. The structure is made of red brick with hanging tiles on the first floor and features a central band. It has a dark red plain tiled roof with forward hipped gables on both the right and left sides, and three chimneystacks along the ridge of the central range. The building is two storeys high and has a window arrangement of 1:6:1, featuring small paned vertically sliding sashes with moulded surrounds. The right and left gables each have two-storey angled bays. There are four six-panel doors with moulded surrounds and flat canopies supported by brackets, located to the right and left of the main range and the right and left of the angled bays. The central pedestrian entrance has a square head. Attached red brick walls at the right and left front angles extend through the staff accommodation houses of the school, featuring panelled gates and round-headed arches.
