RAVENINGHAM BECCLES ROAD TM 49 SW 9/122 Grove Farmhouse 25-9-51 GV II

Farmhouse, C16 and C17. Timber frame, rendered, between red brick gables; later red brick wing to rear. Steeply pitched pantiled roofs. Two storeys and attics; lobby entrance plan with triple-pile projection, of two builds, at rear. South facade of four widely spaced bays: C19 3-light casements with transoms. Jettied first floor rendered over. Off-centre two storey gabled porch; large axial stack in line with porch with grouped polygonal shafts on moulded base. Red brick crow-stepped gables with polygonal angle shafts; large external chimney stack with weathered off-sets on western gable. East gable has ovolo moulded mullion and transom windows surmounted by brick pediments: six lights with stay-bars on ground floor, four lights on first floor and three lights in attic. Two rendered and colourwashed gabled wings to north: one opposite south porch probably an original stair turret. Infilling the space between these wings, a later two storey wing with shaped red brick gable to north with internal chimney stack. C19 and C20 casements; two blocked oval attic lights in shaped gable. Later pantiled lean-to in north-west angle. Interior much modernised, but contains good late C17 stair- case with turned balusters.
