Description

The Lodge is a dwelling built around 1800 and possibly earlier. It features a rendered exterior on masonry that mimics ashlar stonework and has slate roofs. The building is two storeys high with a symmetrical main facade consisting of three bays. A porch with an entablature is supported by paired Ionic columns. The facade includes French windows with glazing bars set beneath recessed segmental arches that have cusped fan decorations. These windows are flanked by sliding jalousie shutters, creating a Venetian effect. Above, there are sash windows with glazing bars that form margin lights, also with jalousie shutters. The eaves project, and the roof is a shallow-pitched hipped design.

On the west facade, there is an impressive six-bay cast iron verandah with arches supported by paired reeded columns. The spandrels feature radiating bars and a Greek key frieze adorned with anthemion motifs, topped by a copper bell-base lean-to roof. To the east, there is a fragment of a house dating to around 1700, which includes three surviving first-floor two-light windows with metal casements and original fittings.

Inside, the Lodge boasts a fine staircase with a double apsidal plan, featuring square section balusters on an open string and a roof light. The doors have circular panels and architraves with corner paterae, and there is a plaster groin vaulted hall with decorative plasterwork.
