Description
The Church of St Mary Magdalen is a parish church that dates from the medieval period and later. It is constructed of flint with stone and some brick dressings, featuring lead and slate roofs. The church includes a west tower, a nave with a north aisle, a south porch, and a chancel with a vestry to the north. The 14th-century west tower is notable for its chequered flushwork on the diagonal buttresses, curvilinear 2-light traceried bell-openings, and a crenellated parapet. The nave has two 2-light cusped Y-traceried windows, while the north aisle, added in 1875, contains one re-used cusped Y-traceried window. The chancel features two flat-headed 2-light windows in the Perpendicular style, with the westernmost window retaining some original tracery, as well as a 19th-century east window and vestry. Inside, there are plain chamfered arches leading to the tower and chancel, a 19th-century north arcade designed in the style of the 14th century, and a chancel piscina. The church also houses an octagonal font with quatrefoil panels, an arcaded base, and a ribbed wooden cover. A wall monument to Sir Edwin Rich, who died in 1675, is adorned with flanking foliage scrolls and a model of an hourglass above.
