Description

This milestone, dating from the 19th century, is located on The Street in Haddiscoe. It features a square limestone shaft set on a concrete plinth. Each face of the shaft has a shallow pitched gable or pediment at the top. The east and west faces display distances to nearby villages, presented in incised black lettering within recessed panels that have trefoiled heads. The north face indicates distances to the station, Yarmouth, and Lowestoft, along with the inscription "Toll gate removed 1869." The corners of the shaft were likely originally chamfered, but they are now significantly weathered and eroded.
