Description
The Former Crown Public House is a building that dates back to the 18th century, although it likely has an earlier core. It is constructed of red brick, which is rendered and colour-washed, and features a steeply pitched pantile roof. The building has two storeys and attics, with the south front displaying three widely spaced windows and a gabled cross wing to the west. The windows are sashes with glazing bars and architraves. On the ground floor, there is a canted bay window with a hipped plain tile roof. The doorway is located off-centre to the east and features a half-glazed door. There are two gabled attic dormers, each with two-light casements. The roof has two chimney stacks along the ridge line; the western stack has four linked square shafts on a massive square base, with the shafts having chamfered corners. An external stack is located at the east gable and has weathered offsets. There is a 20th-century one-storey extension at the east gable. The cross wing contains sashes at the ground, first, and attic floor levels. The rear elevation has largely 20th-century fenestration, and there are later extensions on the north side. The north gable of the cross wing is dated 1862.
