Description

Aldeby House is a house dating from the late 17th century, with some later minor extensions. It is constructed of red brick and features steeply pitched plain tiled roofs, with a hipped roof over a later wing to the west. The house has two storeys and attics, arranged in a T-shaped plan.

The north range, forming the head of the 'T', has shaped gables and cross casements with leaded glazing, including one ground floor window that is ovolo-moulded. There is a large external stack on the north wall, which is off-centre and has weathered offsets, along with a rebuilt internal stack on the west gable. The eaves are decorated with sawtooth and modillion brickwork.

On the west gable, the window openings feature segmental moulded brick pediments, but all openings are blocked except for one at the first floor and one at the attic level. The east gable has had its ground floor openings altered, including one 2-light casement with a semicircular head, one large square-headed window with a transom and pivoted upper lights, and one first floor cross casement with leaded glazing; all other openings are blocked.

There is a gabled single-storey outshut with a pantiled roof at the north-east corner. The south range has been altered and extended, with ground floor windows of three lights, two of which have restored rendered and chamfered mullions, alongside some 20th-century casements with leaded glazing. The first floor features two-light casements with leaded glazing, including one cross casement.

The south gable is stepped and has a catslide extension to the west side, with a large 20th-century four-light ground floor window that has a transom, and two-light floor and attic casements above. The entrance door is off-centre and has a plain pilastered doorcase with a lead-covered canopy and a rectangular two-light fanlight above. There is also a first floor cross casement in the south end of the lean-to, and a catslide to the west with two and four-light leaded casements. Additionally, there is a two-storey hipped projection with 20th-century casements in the west wall, including a ground floor window of three lights with a transom and glazing bars.
