Description

Priory Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the late 17th century to early 18th century, with a date of 1719 marked on the tie irons of the north gable. It is constructed from brick and flint, with some areas rendered and others colourwashed, and features steeply pitched pantile roofs. The building has two storeys and attics, with an irregular E-shaped plan.

At the south end, the house includes a two-storey outbuilding. The west elevation, facing the road, has four staged brick buttresses against a rendered wall, with 20th-century door and window openings that have segmental heads. The west elevation of the house itself is rendered and ashlared, featuring two ground floor and two first floor sash windows without glazing bars. The ground floor openings have keyblocks, and the doorway between the windows has exposed red brickwork, showing a rubbed and keyed arch above it, with rendered pilasters.

The double pile south-east cross wing is made of brick and has a blocked first floor window opening with a square brick drip. The ground floor opening has been reduced and features a pegged oak frame, with the mullions removed. It has a coped and parapeted gable. The northern pile of the cross wing has 20th-century casements and a gable parapet with tumbling-in at the base; the north wall is rendered and ashlared.

To the north-east, there is a 2.5-storey projection made of brick, partly whitewashed and partly rendered and ashlared, with a gable parapet and corbelled eaves. A large external gable stack has a square rendered shaft, and there are two blocked circular attic windows in the gable. The north wall features two cross casements with leaded glazing, and there is a 20th-century flat-roofed dormer on the north side roof slope. The roof over the south range has square-set triangular section butt purlins and collars between the principal rafters.
