Description
The war memorial located in the churchyard of the Church of St Botolph in Barford was created by C Mailes and Son in the early 20th century, though the exact date of its erection and dedication is unknown.
Constructed from grey Cornish granite, the memorial has a square plan. It features a rough-hewn Celtic wheeled cross set upon a large tapering square plinth, which is adorned with two bands of moulded decoration at the top. The front face of the plinth bears an inscription dedicating it to the First World War, reading "1914-1919/ BARFORDS TRIBUTE OF GRATITUDE/ (NAMES)," with the names of the nine men from Barford who lost their lives in the war listed below in two columns. The right face of the plinth contains the Second World War dedication, inscribed as "1939-1945/ (NAME)."
